Everything you need to know about choosing the right differential, spline counts, ratios, break-in procedure, and Australia-wide shipping.
For 90% of tough street cars and weekend strip cars running up to 750 horsepower, a 31-spline setup with billet axles and a TUFF TRAC helical LSD provides exceptional strength without sacrificing road manners.
If your vehicle makes over 800HP, runs on dedicated drag radials or slicks, or launches hard off a transbrake, you should choose 35-spline axles and a pro race centre.
Factory clutch LSDs wear down over time, require friction modifier oil, and tend to chatter or single-wheel when pushed. The TUFF TRAC 7-pair helical gear unit uses precision steel helical gears to transfer torque smoothly to the gripping wheel. It has zero clutch plates to wear out, requires no special oil additives, and delivers smooth, silent operation.
Gear ratio depends on your transmission (especially overdrive), tyre diameter, and whether your priority is highway cruising or acceleration:
• 3.08 – 3.25: Ideal for turbocharged, supercharged, or big-torque engines and highway cruising.
• 3.45 – 3.70: The sweet spot for street performance with manual or modern 4/6-speed automatics.
• 3.91 – 4.11: Maximum acceleration for naturally aspirated streeters and drag strip performance.
We pack all differential assemblies and centres securely on custom pallets and ship via insured heavy-freight couriers Australia-wide. We deliver directly to commercial workshops or your local freight depot. East Coast freight starts from $195.
New ring and pinion gear sets require proper bed-in. We recommend driving conservatively for the first 500 kilometers (avoid full-throttle launches, towing, or burnouts) to allow the gear faces to work-harden smoothly, followed by a gear oil inspection.
